Take a spiritual walk in our ADVENT GARDEN
Join us as our labyrinth is transformed into a magical garden. A path leads gradually to the center of the garden, where there stands a raised candle. The Advent Angel appears, walks the path and lights the first candle. There is only the light of the single candle, representing the Christ light. The children come in quietly and expectantly and walk the spiritual path first, placing their apples filled with a lit candle along the path. The children walk one at a time. This is symbolic of children lighting the path for others. One after the other the children walk the path to the center, lighting their own small candle; gradually, together, these give light and warmth to the whole garden. More candles, contained in the apples, are placed by each adult so the light grows brighter and brighter. The ceremony is accompanied by quiet music.
Although it is such a simple children’s tradition, it is filled with wisdom, and with this little festival begins the true inner journey of the week before Christmas. It is the mood of wonder and reverence in this festival and as they walk with dignity to the light at the center, there is revealed in each of us, a deep humanity and uprightness -gifts which were received in early childhood from the spiritual world. By helping to bring light to the garden they can express their thanks, and their will to help in the world is strengthened. The soul of each participant is deeply satisfied and is filled with hope for the future.
This will start at 11 am for the children and teens and will remain set up after the 11:00 service for all adults who want to walk.
**Weather permitting this will be outside in our labyrinth. In the case of inclement weather, this will occur in Fellowship Hall.
