John grew up attending Unity Atlanta and graduated from Georgia State University in 1974, with a major in Mathematics and minors in Philosophy and Psychology. He graduated from Unity’s Seminary at Unity Village, Missouri, and was ordained in 1976. He served as Senior Minister for two years each, in Jacksonville, Florida and Santa Rosa, California, before moving to Unity Village, Missouri. There, he served as Assistant to James Dillet Freeman (’79-’84), and succeeded him as Director for Silent Unity (’84-91). John later served as President of Unity World Headquarters.

Rev. John served as Associate Minister for Rev. Eric Butterworth at Unity Center of Practical Christianity in New York, for six months, before moving to Hawaii to serve as Senior Minister in 1991.

John was Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Unity School of Christianity for nearly ten years, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Unity Churches [now known as Unity Worldwide Ministries]  (’98-’99), and was the Unity Movement’s only delegate to the Parliament of the World’s Religions, in Cape Town, South Africa (1999).

In 2003, he received Unity’s highest award,  The Light of God Expressing awardHe was both humbled and honored to receive this award from his colleagues. He is a beloved author and speaker in the Unity Movement.

John and his wife, Brenda, were delegates to the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Barcelona, Spain, in 2004 and, in Melbourne, Australia in 2009.

John served as President of North Dekalb Rotary Club, Atlanta, GA (07-08). He currently serves on the Board of Atlanta’s Interfaith Community Initiatives (ICI). **The World Pilgrims, a program of the Interfaith Community Initiatives, has taken journeys all over the world, to better understand each other and the world in which we all live. Atlanta’s renowned interfaith leadership program, World Pilgrims, comprised of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist clergy and lay leaders, took a Pilgrimage to Washington, DC. Once there, the group  shared what they have learned through their travels and spiritual immersion programs.

In 2016, Rev. John was certified as a coach and trainer in the HeartMath Institute, Boulder Creek, CA.
